Sadly, most Nigerians feel that the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) doesn’t deliver ‘standard excitement’ – whatever that means – so, they give all their love to European football clubs.
However, with the intervention of wealthy individuals such as Ifeanyi Ubah and Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries – yeah, that’s a church – the league is getting better, and the players are thriving.
This is clear in the performances of people like Sikiru Olatubosun, who, just last Friday, scored a flick-and-volley goal so amazing, it has been nominated for CNN’s ‘Goal of the Week’.
While others are calling the goal “heavenly”, Fox Sports thinks it’s like witnessing a miracle. Whichever one it is, we sincerely hope and pray – alongside Olatubosun’s club, Mountain of Fire and Miracles FC – he wins it.
This is the second time a Nigerian is landing a ‘Goal of the Week’ nomination. Just last year, Kelechi Iheanacho beat out Ronaldo to win the award.
