Kannywood, as the movie industry in nothern Nigeria is called, meted out a disciplinary measure against one of its female members Rahama Sadau by banning her from appearing in any Hausa movie- for the serious offence of featuring in a scandalous musicvideo.
At the time,Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MOPPAN) Salisu Mohammed released a statement on Sunday, October 2 citing Rahama’s appearance as ‘immoral’ and ‘a violation of the association’s code of ethics’ because she ‘appeared inseries of visuals (video and pictorials) hugging and cuddling the music artiste.’
Since 2016 when the ban took effect, 23-year-old Sadau has not been cast for any role. She initially described it as witch-hunting by a popular movie marketer whom she rejected his amorous overtures but has now apologized for her waywardness; hopingthat all will be forgiven and her film career will continue.
Just as a reminder, watch the video that got her banned here and see what part of itviolates the group’s code of conduct. If you blink, you may miss it. Watch closely.
