– Oreoluwa Speaks With CityPeople
These are not the best of times for the family of late Iyalode Alaba Lawson, who passed on weeks back.
Oreoluwa Obey Fabiyi, who is the son of the late Iyalode, recently told CityReople what he will miss most about his late mum, who was the Iyalode of Egbaland and the Iyalode of Yorubaland in her lifetime. “In her lifetime, my mum was a great woman. She is still great even in death. I am going to miss so many things about her.”
“Her love, her care, that voice on the phone I receive daily.
She was a mother, a compassionate one who impacted lives.”
“She was my world and a disciplinarian to the core. I am still in shock, but testimonies so far as shown she lived a good life and impacted lives. She lived and impacted lives
How did he receive the news of her passing? I got a call from my elder brother, Mr Akinola Lawson, at 5.46 am on the 28th October 2023.
What lesson has her life taught him? “To be compassionate. To be your brother’s keeper. Always put your trust in Jehovah. Above all, don’t let anybody intimidate you if you are on your right.”
What went through his mind immediately, when he received the sad news of his mum passing on? “Hmmm, a lot. First, I was like, so I don’t have a mother again. In one second, I thought of all the beautiful memories we shared during her lifetime.”
We got him to tell us about the Oreoluwa, many don’t know. What sort of a person is he? “Well, first, I must thank God for my life because I was born by two great parents, it’s not easy. So, I am grateful to him. I am an easygoing person. It’s kind of nice. I dislike cheating, and I always stand on my rights.”
He told us where he was born and where he grew up.
“Well, I was born in the United Kingdom 4 decades ago by two special people, I love so much: Prof Evangelist Ebenzer Obey-Fabiyi and Iyalode Alaba Lawson.
Growing up was fun. There are a lot of memories shared between mummy and daddy. I am grateful once again to God for this.”
What business does he do? “I am a public servant, a staff of Nigerian Shippers Council. I work there as a civil engineer.”
What are the burial plans? First, let me be grateful to God and let me say a big thank you to my dad, Professor Ebenezer Obey-fabiyi, for everything he has been doing since mummy passed. God will continue to keep him and watch over him. I also say a big thank you to the Ogun state government for the love and concern during this period and to everyone who paid the family condolence visit. God will bless everyone.
7th and 8th of December 2023 have been picked for the Service of songs at OOPL, Abeokuta, and Idi Ape Church for the burial.”
