Right now in Rivers APC, the big battle is over who will emerge the governorship flagbearer of the party . And the fight has led to disagreements among APC leaders. The undisputed leader of the party in the state is Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi who was the former Rivers Governor before the incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike.
There is a long list of politicians who are jostling for the governorship slot. Already the fight has pitched Amaechi against the likes of Senator Magnus Abe. Who will Amaechi support? Will he field Dr. Dakulu Peterside who ran the last time on the platform of APC or he has a new annointed candidate?
Who among these gentlemen made up of Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, Dr. Sekonte Davies, Dr. Tonye Cole, Barrister Dumo Lulu-Briggs, Engr. Sampson Ngeregbara and Senator Magnus Ngei Abe will finally take the mantle and provide good governance in 2019, if elected Governor of Rivers under the All Progressive Congress-APC platform?.
DAKUKU PETERSIDE
Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside will be taking a 2nd shot at being elected Governor of Rivers State. He has a dream of turning Rivers State into a state where citizens and residents will feel secured to do business, live and work as free patriotic Nigerians where dreams will be realized if you are hardworking. In his first attempt in becoming elected Governor of Rivers state in 2015 under APC showed his Manifesto being rich in ideas and realizable dreams but the mandates of Rivers people as their establishment of the principle of Social Contract as indicated by the result of the ballot polls decided otherwise hence his show of interest of second coming of presenting himself for election as Rivers State Governor come February 2019 is apt.
And the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency –NIMASA-Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside has been very vibrant in criticizing the incumbent Governor Nyesom ezenwo Wike in his lack of vision for development driven administration. And he remains the man to beat in any free and Fair APC Governorship Primary election. The current wave of political re-engineering in Rivers state favours Dr. Dakuku as first APC in 2014 zones Governorship position to Rivers South East Senatorial District where he Dr. Dakuku Peterside hails from and Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s insistence of having a Riverine emerging as elected executive Governor of Rivers State became imperatives as the last held Rivers State -APC State congress on Monday 21st of May, 2018 had Honourable Ojukaiye Flag Amachree as the new State Chairman of the party as he hails from Rivers West Senatorial district.
SEKONTE DAVIES
He is clever, cool, suave and intelligent with skilled managerial acumen having been elected to represent Degema/Bonny Island Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives Abuja for some years back. And now Dr. Sekonte Davies having been appointed as Director Marine Operations at Nigerian Ports Authority has been keeping touch with home front as each weekend he visits Rivers State from Lagos where he works. And he is the brain behind “I SEE YOU -IN -APC” a political pressure group led by Barrister Chizi Nyeomasila, National President which has grass root mobilization activism and makes APC in Rivers State more visible similar to what Grass Root development Initiatives-GDI did for the 2013, 2014 Grass root drive of the then serving Minister of State for education Nyesom Ezenwo Wike that catapulted him into occupying Government House Rivers State on May 29th, 2015. So, Dr. Sekonte Davies if chosen or elected in the APC Governorship Primary will work more harder to unify his party and drive them to victory come February 2019. He was appointed Director of Finance, and Accounts of the Muhammadu Buhari Change 2015 Presidential Campaign and he studied for higher degrees in Russia and China as he speaks Mandarin and Soviet languages fluently being a father of 4-boys with 2 twin birth of the 4 boys. Barrister Dumo Lulu-Briggs the son of multibillion Naira businesses Mogul Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs is in the race to be elected as governor of Rivers come May 29th, 2019. But the odds favours him as the Ahmadu Bello University trained LL.B Law graduate and London School of Economics Masters Degree in Law LL.M graduate and Barristers-At law graduate Dumo Lulu-Briggs who owns Platform Oil and Gas exploration and Exploitation Company, is in the race to becoming an elected Governorship candidate of Rivers State All Progressive Congress. His only drawback is the fact that his companies in United Kingdom once went into Insolvency and he found himself back to Nigeria where he picked Chairman of Federal Medical Center Owerri in Imo State as compensation to realizing his political relevance in PDP. Before then in 2003 he surreptitiously withdrew from Governorship election 2-days to election date under the National Democratic Party-NDP asking his supporters to vote for his opponent Dr. Peter Odili instead after a woeful campaign at Ogoni axis of Rivers State then. Today he does not excite Rivers State voters as a serious governorship aspirant based on his 2003 outing and subsequent 2011 and 2015 show up. Dumo Lulu-Briggs may pick Rivers west senatorial ticket after all as a Greek gift for his role in bank rolling most activities of APC while Davies Ibiamu Ikanya held sway in office as Chairman of the party then.
ENGR. SAMPSON NGEREGBARA
For those who know this Andoni Local Government Area born trained Engineer Sampson Ngerigbara who was once appointed Commissioner for Works will attest to his drive for success and accomplishments in any area of human endeavour where he is assigned to. Today he is the Chairman of FREE RIVERS DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES a political pressure group which has tap root in the 23 LGAs and 319 political wards of rivers state. But their presence remain elusive and not touching on the real people who ought to support APC in the 2019 election instead the incumbent Governor Wike had provided a counter to its presence in the 23 LGAs by appointing 23 LGAs Governor’s liaison Officers and 319 Wards Governor’s liaison officers with mandate for the Care-taker Committee Chairman in the Local Government areas to see to their welfare as securing peace in the grass root is a must –do- activity of the local government boss who is the chief security officers. Again Engineer Ngeregbara in 2014 aspired under PDP to be elected Governor of rivers state but were among the 18 governorship aspirants who the then junior Minister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike displaced and emerged Governorship candidate held on December 8th, 2014 at Nkpolu Community Secondary Mile 3 Nkpolu-Orowurokwo Port Harcourt. This Kalabari-born born Lagos based business mogul Dr. Tonye Dele Partick Cole is the son of Ambassador Dele Patrick Cole who hails from Abonnema in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State. The Sahara Energy Ltd Oil and Gas exploitation and exploration company was once presented by Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi to be appointed Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but his PDP in Rivers State members objected to his nomination due to the fact that he never showed strong support to the political party at the grass root hence Nyesom Wike’s emergence as junior Minister for Education. At the end of Amaechi’s administration it was on recorded as alleged that Dr. Tonye Cole bought off some legacy projects of Amaechi and that of his predecessor Dr. Peter Odili in Electricity and some undisclosed firms in Privatization effort. Those who know this University of Lagos trained Architect and Brazilian trained Doctorate Degree PhD holder in Architecture say he does not have fluency in speaking his native Kalabari language and as such lacks political Sauvé and dexterity in becoming a politician. Hence his lack of interest in the governorship race in 2019 apart from speculations.
SENATOR MAGNUS NGEI ABE
The Ogoni-born politician senator Magnus Ngei Abe may have all the logic and narratives of having his Ogoni ethnic nationality benefit from the governance of Rivers state since 51 years after its creation. But his political difference with his friend and political leader in APC Rivers State Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi may cause his denial of picking the APC Governorship ticket in 2019 elections. First is the fact that Senator Magnus Abe had stated that Amaechi had told him in private not to contest 2019 governorship election but his followers and political supporters under the aegis of The Meeting with Chief Allwell Onyesoh popularly called Political OCTOPUS leading them are urging him to contest and he opened FREEDOM HOUSE a Governorship campaign Office on Evo Road GRA Phase 2 Port Harcourt is seen as affront to challenging Amaechi’s leadership and the outcome of the Wards, LGAs and State Congresses had sharply shaped where the pendulum of Victory of who picks 2019 APC governorship ticket swings to and it may not be unconnected towards Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside.

Operating under political codes is Gokana Ogoni born politician and former elected Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area Honourable Victor Giadom who was Commissioner for Works under ex Governor Amaechi and Director General of Dakuku Adol Peterside-DAP 2015 Governorship election is currently occupying a National position in All Progressives Congress-APC. He is not talking about political development in Rivers state but political pundits have it that he may spring up surprises either to be a Deputy Governor to someone in Rivers West Senatorial District who may be picked as Governorship candidate.

This Ogoni-born politician and former Commissioner under ex Governor Peter Odili and former member Federal House of Representatives Honourable Emma Deeyah is Cool, loyal and dedicated All Progressive Congress-APC member and believer in the leadership of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. He is being tipped and speculated to be running mate to Sekonte Davies as Governorship candidate in the forth coming 2019 Rivers State Governorship election.Honourable Emma Deeyah’s level of humility is infectious and draws others towards the state leader Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi which is a positive remark for a leader in his own locality Ogoniland where he complements Honourable Victor Giadom and others in achieving success for APC come 2019 Governorship election in Rivers state.
