Iconic Nollywood actress turned world-class health expert, Regina Askia-Williams has called on Nigerians to observe all the safety rules to avoid infections from the deadly COVID-19 virus.
In an Instagram Live chat with City people Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE, she warned that the virus can mutate and adapt to the weather of the country.
She said;
You know back home, our culture encourages us to hug people, but with the advent of COVID, we know that the virus is transmitted through touching surfaces where the virus has landed on.
It is also transmitted through talking and coughing, the Virus will be aerosolized when you talk or cough. But social distancing is alien to our culture. You can jump away when someone wants to hug or tough or shake you. We are advised to stay 6 feet apart or deep.
It is difficult to observe it. The luck that we have in Nigeria is that the strain of the virus that arrive Nigeria is somehow weakened by the environmental conditions there. It’s hot, but the funny thing is that viruses will mutate and adapt to the environment and get stronger.
So you don’t expose yourself to it because there is no cure. We are doing everything we can, but there is no cure. Sometime people get treated and get go back home, but they come back again with worse symptoms, there is involvement of the hearts, there is blood clots, lungs and some more deadly symptoms
So it’s just common sense to avoid this virus by practicing all the COVID etiquettes. Wash your hands with soap and water, Have Sanitisers on you at all time, When you collect money, leave it in the sun for some time.
They have also found that it can infect through the membrane of your eyes, so we are wearing face shields or huge goggles when you are taking care of COVID-19 patients. So if we observe all the things, at the end of the day, we keep ourselves safe and then we keep the community safe.
