•The Story Of The LAGOS Lawmaker
The ancient city of Epe would be ever thankful to one of their own, Honourable Sylvester Ogunkelu for his continuous benevolence to its people. A few days ago, precisely on Sunday 17th April 2022, he, as usual, brought smiles to the faces of all and sundry in the community through his massive empowerment initiative.
Ogunkelu popularly known as Sketel is a reputable philanthropist and a Lagos lawmaker. He presently represents the people of Epe Constituency II in the prestigious Lagos State House Assembly. Before he ventured into politics, the honourable had an impressive career path. He served as the Head of Operations of the informal sector service, Ajah Tax office, in the Lagos State board of internal revenue. He went into the sand dredging business and was elected as vice-chairman of the mining association, Lagos State between 2011 and 2019 after which, he delved into the Oil & Gas sector and car sales. He so much loves his people and he does not hide his feelings about how much he loves them. This informs why their welfare is of utmost importance to him. He, therefore, has various means of empowerment initiatives for his people.
The empowerment programme was held at the open field of the Eredo Local Government secretariat in Epe. It was greeted by a large crowd as they trooped out to witness the epoch-making event. Over 500 Epe people were empowered and given a ray of hope for a new and prosperous life. In addition, a Medical outreach was done for the elderly that have health challenges. Qualified medical personnel were seated under the strategically erected tenths to attend to beneficiaries and issue them available drugs.
As a lawmaker, Ogunkelu understands the need to empower the people of his constituency so that they can live better lives. He however gave out economically viable materials to support and help improve their businesses. Some of these materials he gave out on the day are Grinding machines, Sewing machines, Vulcanizing machines, Barbering tools made up of Clippers and generators, Deep freezers for traders, Hairdryers and hair washing basins, Mower for primary & secondary schools to be cutting grass, Helmet and reflective jackets for bike men. Quite an appreciable number of these items were distributed in such a way that it covered beneficiaries across the entire 11 wards that made up the constituency. Also, the sum of N10, 000 each was given as hand out to 500 beneficiaries amongst whom are aged people.
Before now, the lawmaker had facilitated and embarked on a series of life-changing projects in Epe. Notable among them include; the renovation of a building of classrooms in Okemagba High School Mojoda, Eredo LCDA; renovation of another building of classrooms in Odomola junior high school, Eredo LCDA; completion of an abandoned two stories building at St’ Patrick Senior Grammar School; and the renovation of a building of classrooms in AUD Odo-Egiri. He made the distribution of 300 Free Jamb forms in 2020 to encourage continual learning for the children of Epe. Again the following year he facilitated the distribution of another 250 free Jamb forms in 2021. He financed free Jamb Coaching Classes for Students within the constituency in the year 2020/21.
In 2022 alone, Ogunkelu distributed 400 free JAMB forms and organized coaching classes for candidates. He is bent on continually encouraging a study culture among Epe children and the youths thereby making it a year-to-year scheme.
He has also given out a number of scholarships to brilliant and outstanding students. 10 students from his constituency in Epe are already enjoying his full scholarship scheme enabling them to study at the prestigious Lagos State University while 3 other young and bright minds are on a full scholarship studying at the University Of Cyprus. These are what they are all enjoying till date courtesy of Honourable Ogunkelu. He has greatly contributed to the development of the community through education.
His active engagement in the distribution of Covid-19 palliative and relief funds were laudable. He ensured that the people of his constituency got a fair share of the relief material from the government.
Long before he became a lawmaker, Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluwadahunsi was widely known for his impactful Philanthropist input in the community. He engaged in sponsoring students to study at Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED). He has been sponsoring many community activities through his Community responsibility gestures.
As a lawmaker in the Lagos State House of Assembly, he offered free eye sanitation and free eye cataract surgery for 200 eye patients from his constituency in 2019. He has been conducting periodic free health sensitization outreach from 2020 till date.
Honourable Ogunkelu Sylvester Oluwadahunsi has also done remarkably well in the Construction of several boreholes in Epe Constituency II. These laudable projects were done in wards such as M1 (Odomola,Ajagbede Odo-Egiri), L1 (Noforija,Araga), F1 (Odoayandelu), Q1 (Ejinrin), and R1 (Temu). He also facilitated the construction of big solar-powered boreholes by the state government to Ebute Ikosi, the construction of Itamarun Iraye Road, the completion of abandoned road construction of Thomas street Agbowa, the delivery of 2 Transformers to Owu Community in Ikosi Ejinrin as well as the building of a jetty point at Ebute Ikosi Agbowa. All these and many more he was able to do within less than 4 years of representing his people in the Lagos House of Assembly. Honourable Ogunkelu is indeed a man of the people who would go to any extent to put smiles on the face of the people of Epe Constituency II.
It is the belief of the people that one good term deserves another and this is why the Epe people are rooting for their beloved representative and lawmaker, Honourable Sylvester Ogunkelu. They want him to continue the good work he has begun come 2023. His reign has no doubt brought fortune to the people of Epe Constituency II at large.
