Popular Actor, YOMI FABIYI Reveals
A few weeks back, 1st of May 2024 to be precise, popular actor Yomi Fabiyi, hosted a big 3-in-1 party in Abeokuta. It marked his first house warming party, birthday celebration and mum’s remembrance. Yomi Fabiyi is not only an actor. He is an MC and CEO of Rocklaf Studio. He is also a Human Rights activist. He was trained by veteran actor/producer Yinka Quadri.
During the event, City People got him to talk and he told us how he felt seeing the huge turn out of guests. “I feel very happy. I feel elated.
But another thing is that while someone is on this earth he/she should try to have positive impact. I will say this is my new year and I do not have anything to do with spoiling someone’s life, or contributing to someone’s downfall. I can only thank God for keeping me alive and for gifting me a new house to crown my long time effort. If someone is doing well in the society, and thousands of people are cursing him, it will turn to prayer and blessings. But, if the person is doing bad, the person will also reap it even his generation will also reap from it.”
He is well known in Lagos. Why did he choose to build his new house in Abeokuta? “Right from onset I had it in mind that charity begins at home. As an actor who has been to so many places. If we go to shoot movie in a location many people used to challenge us by a king if we have a house or space in that location. Sometimes, we encounter some area boys who claim to be “Omo Onile”. Moreover, Lagos is not far from Abeokuta. If we use our money and all we have to develop only Lagos and we do not think of where we come from, how will it develop?
“From onset, I have always said to myself that my first house will be in my father’s land. Now my children can say this is their own father’s house. They can do anything they like. But they cannot do that in our family house at Shodeke.
So, they will do as they like without anyone questioning them. So, I decided to build this house as part of my contribution to the development of my town.”
How did he come about the name of the street?
“All thanks to the community and those that show us love. I realised that to have your name named after a street is not an easy task. After the acceptance of the community, the government in charge of that will paste notice in that community if they can name the street after the person’s name and if you have anyone that complains about that, they will not name the street after the person. We thank God that nobody complained about it and that’s one of the legacies I want to leave for my children. I can only thank God that I love my community and my community reciprocates the love. I will advice that we should have the pain of sacrificing for the future, by building a good legacy and good name for the children. Thanks to the government, and the community for choosing my name for the street.
How did he actualise this house with the current situation of the Nigeria economy?
In all, if you are sincere with what you are doing everything will look like magic. I cannot say precisely that this is the amount of money I reserved to build this house. How I started the building of this house none of it was hidden to everybody. All was by the grace of God that I was able to actualise it with the help of Private Cinema that I am doing and it’s because of the good relationship I have with all of them. Some say that only 10 people watch my video but with that God crown my effort. As I have said earlier “eniyan woju, olorun wo okan”. There is this saying that most male actors don’t have houses and they make it in life but now I thank God that is not my story. I also thank my fans for supporting me wonderfully well.”
