How long have you known Mrs. Jumoke Oyeneyin?
I have known Jumoke Oyeneyin for over 10 years. I got to meet her through my sister, Mrs. Moji Awosika. She is the type of sister you couldn’t help but admire. I love everything about Jumoke. She is stylish too.
If I am asked about your age, I would say you are in your 50s, how old is Mrs. Dupe Lawale?
(Laughs). I am 67 and I will be 68 in the next few months.
What is the secret of your look at 68?
Many things are responsible for my youthful look. When I am angry, I only get angry for a moment. Anger shortens life span. I let my anger disappear immediately, I buckle it up. I don’t harbor anger. When I make up my mind about someone, if I want to relate with you, I continue, if I don’t want to relate with you, I move on.
You are so fashion conscious and it is obvious from your colour combo, what is fashion to you?
I just love to look good. Like right now, I am coming from the church. So fashion is wearing what suits you.
You are dominating the social scene yet you have been rocking the scene for over 40 years. What has life taught you?
I don’t know what you mean by dominating but there is a hymn in African Communion, through the troubles, the glory of God is sufficient for you once you know your limit. It takes you to have Christ in you to know that you have Christ in you, know that you have His glory. If you have Christ in you, his glory will radiate all over you.
You are so Biblical, what is your background like?
My father was a Pastor. He was the late Pastor Samson Mofolorunsho Ogunnaike. I took after my dad in height, while I took after my mum in complexion.
Where were you born?
I was born in Lagos. I schooled in Lagos and married in Lagos. I was born in Sabo, Post Office. area. My father then was a Post Master in 1952. My mum was a teacher turned trader. She was into selling of matresses in Yaba. Then my father retired. So, it was a closely knitted family.
So you grew up in Lagos, how do you see the new Lagos?
Well, it is a new Lagos indeed. I pray that God supports the Governor to achieve his desire of a new Lagos.
What do you do?
I run a travel agency and it is called Emmanuell travels. I started it in 1991 and since then, I have been running it till date.
What were you doing before setting up this company?
I was working with Daily Times then I left to set up a travel agency and a ferry service. The Ferry Service takes people from Marina to Apapa, Marina to Ikorodu. I started the Ferry Service in 2004.
What has brought you this far?
It is the grace of God and having God as a best friend and Jesus Christ.
Many young celebs look up to you because you are stylish, what is your advice for them?
The young ones must believe in themselves. They must know that there would be challenges, but with determination, they would overcome. To be successful, you must be dedicated and faithful. You must be resolute. You must be truthful in all you do. Your yes must be your yes. You must be honest.
What is the secret of your youthful look, is there any particular thing you do to continue looking youthful at 68?
I don’t joke with my moisturiser. I do a lot of aerobics. We have a coach who comes to the house to take us. He comes to take us from 5.30 to 6.30 every day. I don’t skip it. It is from Monday to Saturday. I also love to look good. I wear what suits my body frame and eat right.
