IKORODU Fuji Artist, Alhaji MUTIU AYINDE
On Friday, 13 October 2023, City People Reporter, Olusola had an interview with Alhaji Mutiu Ayinde and he talked about why he sings like King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal popularly known as K1. Below are the excerpts of the interview.
For the purpose of those who don’t know you, kindly introduce yourself?
My name is Alhaji Mutiu Ayinde Aremo K1 D Ultimate and my band name is Alhaji Mutiu Aremo K1 D Ultimate Classical Band.
For how long have you been in the Music industry?
I have been in the music industry for about 35 years now. I started singing at the age of 15 years in Ikorodu town. I started as a chorus singer for Shakiru Ishola in Ikorodu town. I was with him for many years. I left him because I had a trade I was doing by then. I was an Engineer but I was so much interested and passionate about music. So I started my own band and what also inspired me then was the music of Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 D Ultimate). He sang a song back then with keyboard. I listened to the music and it was different from the regular Fuji music. But I came back on stage 30 years ago, and I tagged it Alhaji Mutiu Ayinde back on stage. I started doing music again, it was 24th of December. People turn out massively and that showed that my music was accepted. Many people came to me then and said I should continue doing music. I can only say glory be to Allah since then.
Since you started singing, how many music artist have you work with?
I have work with many people, I have worked with Alhaji Wasiu Pasuma, I have also worked with Alhaji Suleiman Alao popularly known as Malaika, I and Suleiman Atawewe have worked together, the list is long I cannot mention all. And we have been to many places, but I pray to God to crown all my effort.
What was your role when you worked with these music artist?
Sometimes that they organise shows, we can perform together. Many time we might not set eye on each other, because I might perform and leave, while the second person performs and leaves too. I performed with Malaika recently and it was a great impact.
What are the challenges you have passed through as music artist?
We have faced many challenges, we have seen the good and bad part but God should have mercy on us. I pray to God in His mercy to let the good be more than the bad. We can not do without having challenges, every work has its own ups and downs but we are grateful.
How many people have you trained since you have been in the music industry?
We have many of them, because we were also trained by someone. There is this guy that plays guitar for me before he started his own. He has played in many places in Nigeria even outside the country. They are many that I can not mention them all.
Why did you choose to bear this name with K1 D Ultimate?
They used to say anyone you wish to be like, you will look like the person totally. I want to use this period to say that many names that K1 is bearing today even if I can not bear them all, I use to give some of the names to my children. The name Olasunkanmi, I have a child that bears Olasunkanmi. As he named his daughter Rihannat, I also named one of my children Rihannat. I love him with a passion, sometimes I feel if something is doing K1 it is also doing me. I love him to the extent that if someone talk bad about him, I will fight the person. I love him so much, and we are from the same hometown.
Can you tell us your relationship with K1?
K1 as he is, he is my father. He is a kind of person that is very busy, there was an occasion that we were in a room together talking but he did not know that I was a musician, we discussed together, we snapped picture together but I did not introduce myself to him, however, when the time comes I will.
Why did you choose to sing like K1?
I love K1’s songs so much, so I choose to sing like him. As we know, there are many Fuji artiste out there with their different styles. Some will choose Pasuma as their role models and sing like him, some will choose Shefiu Alao as their role models and sing like him, some will choose Shina Akanni as their role models and sing like him. For me I see King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal songs as classic and I also look for a way that people will not say I’m just singing anyhow song, so I choose K1 as my role model and I do everything he does. As I am, I don’t listen to K1 songs regularly. To those that know music very well they will understand that I sing like K1 but my key is different from his own. I always appreciate him a lot, may God continue to spare his life for me.
