Highly celebrated and respected Nollywood actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, is one veteran many budding stars don’t joke within the movie industry. She is so loved by both young and old, that almost all her younger ones call her mummy and look up to her as their role model and mentor.
Unknown to many, she practiced journalism for a short while before joining the movie industry. She worked with radio FM and Eko FM before joining the movie industry in 1993 through veteran movie Producer, Zeb Ejiro, who offered her a role in the movie entitled: Nneka the pretty serpent.
She has equally featured in more than 500 movies and still counting. Despite her success in the industry, she has kept her family very private. Though now divorced, but she was married for over 2 decades and the union was blessed with four children, all grown and her only daughter got married recently in Asaba Delta State. It was witnessed by ‘A’-list stars in the industry.
Ngozi Ezeonu is one actress you rarely see taking up romantic roles in movies. According to her, she is very selective when it comes to roles in movies because a lot of younger ones look up to her and wouldn’t want to do anything that would disappoint them. She is known as a disciplined and reserved woman. Often, she takes up mother figure roles in all her movies.
In one of her quotes, she states clearly what it takes to be an actress. According to her, It takes a lot to be an actress, it takes time, patience perseverance to be one. You might not be at home when your husband needs you. So, if he says no to your dreams of being an actress, then kill the dream because if you don’t, you may lose your family and the career,
I advise up-and-coming artistes to let their heads remain on their shoulders, which is the most difficult aspect of stardom. So, my advice to up-and-coming artistes is that they should not be desperate, because desperation is evil and could lead them to do anything to achieve their aims. By perseverance, the snail reached the ark. Never give up or sit down and grieve. Keep pressing on and the sky will be your limit”.
Hardly would you see a movie shot in the eastern part of Nigeria and producers won’t feature her because of her versatility and gorgeous look. She has lots of awards to her credit, including the most recent, the Most Outstanding Queen of Nollywood 2019.
