Epe is a town and local government area in Lagos State, located on the North side of Lekki Lagoon, Lekki Epe International Airport approved for development. At the recent Ehingbeti Economic Summit, the Federal Government gave Gov. Sanwo-Olu approval letter for the Lekki-Epe Airport. The federal approval is for Lagos State to embark on the development of a passenger and cargo airport on the Lekki Epe axis of the state. Lagos Government initiated the aviation project, through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) in response to the dizzying pace of development on the Lekki-Epe axis, which is now a fast-growing hub of Commerce and Industrial activities. The entire airport infrastructure will be sited on 3,500 hectares, with the first phase of the project estimated to cost $900 million.

He said granting the licence for the airport project is a right step in the right direction. The real beneficiaries are the citizens and the businesses that will be using the infrastructure to activate move economic prosperity.

When Gov. Sanwo-Olu appeared on Channels TV recently he spoke about the rapid development going on in Epe. He likened the ongoing development in Epe to London. “Epe is like little London”, he says. “All the major roads in Epe are being fixed. The 6-lane highway that will set out from Eleko junction to Epe is befitting. Epe has been fully equipped. We are fixing the Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 of entire network of roads.” Hospitals are being opened Housing estates are being developed. Major, major arteries are done up. Right now, we are doing Braithwaite Road and Yakub road.

It was former governor, Akinwunmi Ambode who started the rapid expansion of Epe when he came in as Governor. He is from Epe and he decided to pay a lot of attention to infrastructural developments of Epe during his 4 years term. This is what Sanwo-Olu came in to build on.
