•How The 2 Actresses Tore The Movie Industry Apart

It has always been a deep-rooted practice in the movie industry to envy one another other, which may develop to intense hatred for one another without any reason. Some of these movie stars even go as far as inheriting each other’s for those involved. The hatred could become contagious as enemy of a star’s enemy, becomes one’s friend, while friend of one’s enemy becomes one’s enemy. This happens without even making personal findings on the cause of the rift or the relationship.

Most of the showbiz stars today, who don’t even see eye to eye don’t have genuine reasons for hating one another. Class issue is also one aspect that has eaten deep into the movie stars fabric of relationship. Some will say, a particular actress doesn’t belong to their class therefore, her clique of friends could not associate with them. They discriminate against one another, and this has made a good number of upcoming stars, who could not stand the heat, to quit, and give up on their dreams.

There is also the issue of oh! I got into the movie industry before you and, therefore, I am your senior and should be respected. The seniority/superiority issue has made many actresses enemies of themselves till date and many veterans in the industry, therefore, don’t relate with one another. They feature in movies together and that is where it ends. Besides working together on movie sets, they don’t even greet one another, when they meet outside location.

There are also some actresses who have personal relationships with some marketers. They often use the relationship to deal with their colleagues, who are not their friends in the industry. They go to the extent of adversely affecting their career prospect.

They often tell some marketers, who and who to feature in movies. Once these favoured actresses see the cast of a particular movie, and their enemies are cast for roles, they would do anything to see that the names of their enemies are removed and replaced with these or their friends. All these and more are the normal trends both in the Yoruba and English genres in the industry. The only way most actresses are surviving in the Yoruba movie industry is producing their personal movies.

Many would think this trend should have stopped especially with the new Online streaming platform, where many now showcase their movies. Sadly the halred has not stopped. It has gone beond featuring in movies. The contagious hatred has spread to endorsement and ambassadorial deals too. It didn’t come as a shock to many few days ago when a popular actress Habibat Jinad a few days ago called out her colleague Yetunde Bakare, on social media. According to Habibat Jinad: “I am begging you all for the sake of my son, please and please, I am begging you in the name of God. I have fought so many battles and I am still standing, I have been broken, destroyed, rejected and abandoned, but I am still walking proud, please let me live in peace for the sake of my son.

“Please I want to live for the sake of my son, I am passing this information to my colleagues in the industry. I have heard so many negative things about myself. I have heard it up to my neck, if I die today, many of you will quickly write RIP on your pages, but deep down in your heart, you know you don’t like me. Please if you hear things about me, ask me before you jump to conclusion, Yetunde Bakare you contributed so much to all this, please you guys should let me live for the sake of my son. A lot of people who would have helped, you people would quickly tell them it’s no go area, this is not fair, what have I done? You keep tarnishing my image.

Fine, I know you have pleaded with me, but that thing keeps coming back”. Immediately after her post, her Senior Colleagues in the industry Biodun Okeowo aka Omoburty commented on her post to console her. “Smiles, this revolves my dear, my set did same to me and they are still doing it till now. They will even fight so that my name is removed from a list of actresses to visit high places because they feel intimidated.

Yet I rise and I am still rising. Habibat your own helpers will definitely not pass you by. Believe in God and remain your decent self. It’s only God who connects and never disconnects. Even if they are the ones who connect you….trust me they will spoil the place for you once they see you rising beyond their expectations, so stay with God”.

Just few hours after her post Yetunde Bakare, who is currently based in the U.K, responded to the allegation. And according to her: “I will just make it simple out of respect for my son and because you are not a stranger to me. Nobody, I repeat absolutely nobody asked me about you either for a job or business. If you want to create enemies for me based on hear say that happened four years ago, then you are a joker. And to that senior colleague who is always ready to jump on anything that has to do with Yetunde, may you find peace”. She also shared a video concerning the issue according to her. “I just woke up and I went on social media, and I was tagged on Habibat’s video. I took my time to respond, so to avoid some things. Habibat is referring to something that happened 4 years ago someone told her that I said something, I called her to explain myself, to sort things out. And moreover I know we patronise one another”.

Habibat, I don’t roll with people who know people in the industry. I am not desperate for fame. I don’t go back to location, I know just a few producers and I don’t know people that you know. Immediately I reached out to you on whatsapp, you were Online, but you refused picking it up. I did all that to avoid social media drama, but don’t get me wrong, it’s not as if I am scared of anything, so where did all that come from?”

If I do or say something, I will admit it, I am very blunt, so it’s either I say sorry or we won’t talk again. I have recommended a lot of people for jobs and many people are aware of that. You can’t say what happened four years ago is still hurting you, that is not true. I won’t take your coming to social media to play pity game to create enemies.

For me, I won’t take that, please don’t use it as an excuse for your predicament. If anyone has said it, please call me and mention the person’s name to sort it out, but I won’t take your coming to social media to play pity game”.

This particular issue as expected has torn the Yoruba movie industry into two. Most especially, among the new generation of actresses, in the industry. Most of them have pitched tents with their favourites. While some are of the opinion that, whatever Habibat Jinad has said, is the truth and have even spent so much time to air their views concerning what she is going through in the industry. Yetunde Bakare’s supporters on the other hand, believe that Habibat is just looking for who to blame for her predicament and also wanted to use the opportunity to trend.

Yetunde Bakare is one of the fast-rising actresses in the industry. She started her career as a model and played minor roles on stage plays before going into movie proper in 2009. She once worked with First Weekly Magazine and her meeting with Yomi Fash-Lanso boosted her acting career. She has since featured in many movies and also produced a few.

Habibat Jinad aka Omo Jinad on the other hand, is an actress, producer and television presenter. She works for Miliki Express on Orisun TV. She began acting professionally in 2007, she joined the Afeez Abiodun group as a trainee in 2008 and graduated in 2010. She has since featured in many movies and also produced a few too. She has a son in the industry, who is doing exceptionally well in the industry.
