The Senate on Wednesday condemned the killings in Zamfara, commending Nigerians for coming out en mass to show solidarity with the people of the state.

Adopting a motion by Sen Kabiru Garba Marafa (APC, Zamfara), the Senate also urged the Federal Government to come up with a 10-year initiative to cater for the internally displaced persons in the state.

The Senate also resolved to appropriate the sum of N10 billion in the 2019 budget for victims of the attacks by bandits.

Marafa in his motion narrated how people are being killed by bandits in Zamfara State almost on daily basis.

He said the development has rendered many people homeless as they left their communities to seek refuge in other places, noting that the situation was so pathetic.

Senators who contributed to the debate on the motion decried the level of insecurity not only in Zamfara but also in other states such as Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Plateau, Benue, Taraba, among others.
