On Saturday, November 9, 2024, lovebirds Maryam Bawala and Faruk Olaiya celebrated their union in a lavish ceremony that brought family and friends from the UK to Nigeria. The couple, alongside their parents, returned to Lagos to honour their Yoruba heritage in style, gathering loved ones for an unforgettable occasion.
Held at the prestigious Whitestone Event Place on Billings Way, Ikeja, the event celebrated the coming together of two prominent families: the Bawalas from Ijebu and the Olaiyas from Egba in Abeokuta. Both families, known for their distinguished standing and economic influence in Yoruba land, brought their unique cultural essence to the day’s festivities.
The celebration began with a vibrant traditional engagement ceremony. Under the guidance of renowned MCs Jide Gold Alaga and Lepatiocommon Alaga, both families bonded over joyous exchanges and ceremonial rites, setting a warm and festive tone for the day.
Following the engagement, the Nikkah ceremony commenced, led by esteemed Islamic scholars who bestowed blessings upon the couple. The solemn exchange of vows underscored the commitment of Maryam and Faruk, witnessed by an attentive gathering of family and friends.
The excitement reached a new height when the groom’s family led the way onto the dance floor, followed by the bride’s family, marking the start of a grand reception. The entrance of Maryam and Faruk was a show-stopping moment, as they made their way to the dance floor flanked by their bridesmaids and groomsmen, cheered on by thrilled guests.
The newlyweds shared their first dance as husband and wife after cutting their elegantly crafted wedding cake. Soon after, the dance floor was opened for all to join, as family, friends, and well-wishers celebrated the joyous union with dance and laughter.
Adding to the day’s elegance, guests dazzled in beautiful, custom-made Aso Ebi attire chosen for the occasion. The entertainment was equally unforgettable, with T1, a band that pays homage to the legendary Kwam 1, delivering a spectacular performance that kept the energy high.
In true Yoruba fashion, this was a wedding where tradition met modern elegance—an affair that will be remembered by all in attendance.
Congratulations to Maryam and Faruk Olaiya on a beautiful start to their journey together.
