British-Nigerian actress, Cynthia Erivo, becomes the second British actor of Nigerian descent to be nominated for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ EE Rising Star Award.
John Boyega won the award in 2016.
Cynthia Eviro who won a Tony, an Emmy and a Grammy for her lead role in the Broadway revival of The Colour Purple, gets nominated for this award after starring in two Hollywood films, Bad Times at the El Royale and Widows.
The EE Rising Star Award is public-voted and concentrates on exceptional young actors who have begun to capture the attention of the British public.
Erivo is nominated alongside Jessie Buckley (Beast), Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, American Animals), Lakeith Stanfield (Sorry To Bother You, Get Out, Atlanta) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Mirror).
The winner will be announced at the British Academy Film Awards on February 10.
