Fred The Godson, a New York-based rapper, has passed away from COVID-19 complications — weeks after he had announced that he contracted the novel coronavirus.

The crooner had first revealed he was in the hospital and placed on a ventilator on April 6.

Days later, his wife disclosed that he wasn’t faring well, although he was said to have later started making progress.

According to ENews, Godson breathed his last on Thursday.

Fans and celebrities have begun to visit social media platforms to pay tributes as words of his death spread.

“Little brother, how sad I am. I prayed and prayed for you all night long. So many dreams, so many conversations, so many great times we had,” Fat Joe, a colleague rapper, wrote on Instagram.

“I am in shock, to say the least. I love you so much, little brother. It’s been years since I felt this pain. Why do the good die young? God, have mercy on his soul for he was a good man.”

Godson had released his mixtape ‘City of God’ in 2012, hosted by DJ Drama, an American record executive. He featured the likes of Diddy, Pusha T, and Raekwon.

He also collaborated with artists like Meek Mill, releasing both a solo project and a collaboration with Jay Pharoah in 2020.

The late rapper is survived by LeeAnn Jemmott, his wife, and two children.

Across the world, 2.7 million people have been infected with the virus with 190,000 deaths.
