An Oredo Magistrates’ Court in Benin, Edo on Wednesday sentenced one Endurance Ebose, 40, to 13 months imprisonment for stealing recharge cards worth N20, 000 and cash of N25,000.
The convict was arraigned along with Rita Ebose, 30, on two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs E. B. Ehigiegba, found the Endurance guilty of the two count charges and sentenced him to 13 months imprisonment.
Ehigiegba said the sentences would run concurrently.
She, however, gave the convict a N25, 000 option of fine, while the second accused, Rita was discharged and acquitted on all charges.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Patrick Agbonifo, told court that the two accused committed the offences on May 8, 2018, at 24, Esigie Street, Off 2nd East Circular Road, Benin City.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the two charges on arraignment and was granted N40,000 bail each.
According to the prosecutor, offences contravened Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws Cap 48 Vol. II Laws of the defunct Bendel State of 1976, as applicable in Edo State.
